The reason I am doing this ride is to raise money to buy new computers for the Deaf school because they exploded when a snake got in to the transformer box. You can read the emali to my Dad from Khun Toy.

Dear Mr. Mulford,

What a wonderful message.  You must be so proud of your daughter, Poppy.
She is such a big heart person at very very young age.  Her kindest donation toward YOK is tremendously amazing and has helped the girl for her monthly education until a couple more years.

Early last week, the main transformer at the Orphanage blew up causing a lot of burnt down in the main server and many computers gone ashtrays, including many at the School for Deaf.
We will need to spend so much money in restore all the damages.  The cause of all these troubles came from a snake make a short circuit on the electric wires next to the transformer, or dear.

We managed to get the electricity back the day after but some computers system were damaged, luckily mind is still all right as I am on the different phase.
However, our computer people have been very very busy fixing all the damaging ones and we need to buy many new replacement of servers and computers.
May I asking permission to announce that this Poppy’s Challence Cycle to Laos Support the School for Deaf entire new computer, Sir ?

Kindly convey our heartfelt appreciation to Poppy for her second challenge to help the less fortunate.

Training with Will Neylon.

The plan was to do 40km but I didn't feel like it because I came back at 11pm last night from the Sports Dinner where I won a medal for best team of the year and I won the girls swimmer of the year award.

Today with Will I went up to Bira on the main road but changed routes because we couldn't cross the road. So we went down some country lanes and managed to do a figure of eight.

With an average speed of 18kmph I ended up doing 35km which wasn't too hard. But wasn't fast enough to keep up with Will because he is Will and he is part of the DAFT OCTOPUS!!!

Rode up to Bira circuit today with Motzi, Scott Fairly and James Gray.

Had a good average speed of 20 kmph.

Cycled 23km.

Scott is cycling around the world in his holidays and so far has reached Japan, whilst I'm cycling to Laos he will be cycling the rest of Japan. He started his journey in Bangkok when I began my T2T Challenge in October of 2013, so 1 year and 5 months ago. We cycled together for one day and then as he was faster he went on ahead through Cambodia into Vietnam. Then on later holidays he cycled Vietnam, China, Korea and has left his bike in Japan. Amazing!

I've started training again!

I have started training again and have gone out a few times with Mark Loader and James Gray. Been up to Bira and along the highway at some points! It's going to be a tough 600 km challenge, but I'm going to keep going!

NEVER   GIVE   UP!!!

I am doing this as part of my Make it Right project at school and have been doing some bake sales to raise money (B200,000) to buy computers and a printer for the Deaf School.

We will set off on the first day of the Songkran Holiday - 4th April. We hope to complete the distance in 8 days by cycling 80km each day.

This time both my dad and mum will cycle with me as well as maybe 2 other members of staff. I asked my friends if they would come too but it looks like it will be just me.

First ride since over a year!!!

I went on my first cycle ride yesterday since over a year, it was 26km long and took me 1 hour, 27 minutes.

 I was exhausted afterwards but relaxed in the pool for about 40 minutes!! I was behind my mum and dad for most of the way except for when we were going down hill.

I can't wait to see how this years challenge goes!!!

Wow!
Such a lot has happened since my last post...
Yok moved to her new school closer to her home so she does not need to board at the Deaf School. This is much better for her and she is doing well there.

I won the Kurt Hahn award through completing the Temple 2 Temple challenge and went to Jordan to collect my certificate from the former King Constantine of Greece at the Round Square International Conference in October.

Q. What next?

A. Temple 2 Temple 2.0

During the Songkran break (April) I will cycle 600km from Thailand to Laos. This time I am inviting others to join me and as a team we will raise funds to supply the Sotpattana School for the Deaf with computers needed to enhance the learning experience for the students there.

Hearing Aid, Donation and Graduation

 Fantastic News!

Last Friday I went to visit Yok so that she could get the mould for her brand new hearing aid that we were recommended to buy for her. The doctor didn't recommend an operation for Yok at this point in time.

 

 She enjoyed having the mould made because the green stuff that she put in her ears was cold so it made her feel relaxed.

My dad and I also met her Mother and her Grandmother so that we could give them her hearing aid, they were very lovely people and were very good at communicating in sign language with Yok.





This was the receipt for the hearing aids which were just under 70,000 baht.

 

This means we had just over 180,000 baht left for Yok's education. This money will pay for her education at her new school, which is close to her home, in Ban Saen for the next 5 years.

This was  the letter that Khun Toy gave me as a token of appreciation. This made me realise what a brilliant thing I have done. Khun Toy told me that I am the youngest person that she has met in 20 years who has helped like I have.

 When we were at the Graduation we saw three performances, one was of caterpillars, another was of bees and the last was a dance by the students graduating.

I got to make a formal presentation of Yok's new hearing aids.

 I gave Yok a graduation present - a school bag with lots of stationary, she also got a cuddly toy from her teachers.

Yok with Father Michael. My Dad and I were treated like VIPs so we got to watch the ceremony sitting on these couches with Father Michael. It felt strange to be treated differently.

This challenge has been a life changing experience for me, something I might only do once, something that I never would have thought was possible, something that I would have mentally been unable to do before, but it was made possible because I met Yok, because Miss Harris was my favourite teacher and inspired me in PE, because Miss Nicholls, Mr Madden, Mr Reardon and my Dad were by my side during the whole Temple 2 Temple Challenge, and because I always reminded myself that,
"There is more in you than you think."

I want you to remember that I am only 12 years old and yet I have completed something that you would have probably thought was impossible and my point is that I encourage you to do something amazing too.

This is what Khun Toy wrote in her letter to me, after receiving the donation for Yok:

'Word fails me when trying to write how appreciated we all have been ever since hearing about your effort and devotion in trying to bike from Ayudhaya to Ankor Wat to fundraise for Yok's hearing operation.  As a young student you have such a big heart to think big and you have the determination to make it happen.  As a person who has been working at the Pattay Orphanage for over 20 years, you are the first girl who has done such a great contribution towards the life of a child.  I wish all children have the high determination, only 50% of what you have, and the world would be such a wonderful place to live.'

Not only have I achieved something awesome, but I have also helped someone else in achieving a higher level in their own life. I suggest that you get motivated, open yourself to the world and find something that you can work on to improve. It doesn't have to be for someone else, just start with yourself and "Shine, shine, shine, shine your way."

Once again I would like to say thank you to everyone out there who donated some money to Yok's cause, I am very appreciative of your help and support in this Temple 2 Temple Challenge.

Yok has a nice new hearing aid and she has her education paid for the next 5 years. What happens after that?
